Standards Based Grading

What is Standards Based Grading?
Standards based grading is a system where student scores are reflective of their proficiency on specific course standards.

At Turner Middle/High School, this system includes:
  • Identified prioritized standards for each course offered
  • Assessments tied to the prioritized standards that allow students multiple opportunities to show their mastery of the standard
  • Reporting of student achievement based on levels of mastery of the standards (what students know and are able to do)
  • Data teachers can use to adjust teaching/learning practices based on the needs of students
  • Encouraging student ownership/responsibility towards learning

A Summary of Standards-Based Grading
Implementing a standards based system requires all those involved (students, parents, teachers) to rethink the purpose of grading, teaching, and learning.
